Obedience Classes

Beginning Obedience 

Open to dogs 6 months or older. Basic commands, control, and behavior instructions. 

Young Dog Obedience 

A beginning class with the younger dog in mind. Open to dogs 5 months to 8 months. Basic commands, control, and behavior instructions.  

Small Dog Obedience 

Open to small breed dogs 6 months or older. Basic commands, control, and behavior instructions tailored to the needs of smaller dogs. 

Advanced Obedience 

Open to dogs and owners that have completed a beginning class.

Off-leash control and polishing to make your dog a reliable and well-behaved family member. Also covered are rules for AKC/UKC novice class competition. 

Intro to Open and Utility

This class is open to anyone who has successfully completed the Advanced Obedience class.  You will be learning training approaches to teach your dog how to perform the exercises in Open and Utility classes.  As this is an introductory class, you will not fully execute each skill by the end of the session.  However, you will have a good start and would be able to register for future Open and Utility classes when they are offered. You do not have to be interested in competing with your dog to take this class.

You will be introduced to the following Open and Utility exercises:

  •  Take and hold a dumbbell
  •  Stand, down, and sit from a distance (command discrimination)
  •  Begin to teach the down on recall
  •   Broad jump
  •   Go outs
  •   Over (left & right) The beginning training step for directed jumping
  •   Scent discrimination – Articles
  •   Stand and stay while you keep moving
  •   Call your dog to heel position

Leash Reactive Obedience

Does your dog bark and lunge at other dogs and/or people while out for a walk?  Does your dog drag you down the street?  Is he anxious while out on a walk?

In this class you will learn the skills to train your dog to be more engaged with you and less anxious and reactive while out for a walk.

Novice (Competition Preparation) 

Open to dogs and owners whether interested in competing or not. Must have completed an advanced obedience class.

This class is specifically geared towards those dogs and owners who are preparing to compete in the obedience ring. This class will cover the rules for AKC/UKC novice class competition and will focus on the dog and owner working as a team to fine-tune the skills needed to succeed in the Novice ring, including attention work, footwork and distractions. 

Open (Competition)

In this class you will be building upon the skills learned in our Novice Competition Class. This class offers instruction in retrieving, jumping, drop on recall, dumbbell work and other techniques to prepare you and your dog for competition. 

Utility (Competition)

The highest level of competition for obedience trials. You and your dog will learn hand signals, directed jumping, scent discrimination, and directed retrieve.
