Intro to Open and Utility
This class is open to anyone who has successfully completed the Advanced Obedience class. You will be learning training approaches to teach your dog how to perform the exercises in Open and Utility classes. As this is an introductory class, you will not fully execute each skill by the end of the session. However, you will have a good start and would be able to register for future Open and Utility classes when they are offered. You do not have to be interested in competing with your dog to take this class.
You will be introduced to the following Open and Utility exercises:
Take and hold a dumbbell
Stand, down, and sit from a distance (command discrimination)
Begin to teach the down on recall
Broad jump
Go outs
Over (left & right) The beginning training step for directed jumping
Scent discrimination – Articles
Stand and stay while you keep moving
Call your dog to heel position
Leash Reactive Obedience
Does your dog bark and lunge at other dogs and/or people while out for a walk? Does your dog drag you down the street? Is he anxious while out on a walk?
In this class you will learn the skills to train your dog to be more engaged with you and less anxious and reactive while out for a walk.
